An adaptable and personalised e-learning system based on free web resources

    Get PDF
A personalised and adaptive E-Learning system architecture is developed to provide a comprehensive learning environment for learners who cannot follow a conventional programme of study. The system extracts information from freely available resources on the Web, and taking into consideration the learners' background and requirements to design modules and a planner system to facilitate the learning process. The process is supported by the development of an ontology to optimise the in-formation extraction process. An application in the computer science field is used to evaluate the proposed system based on the IEEE/ACM Computing curriculum

A Peer-To-Peer Data Processing Infrastructure That Operates On The Largest Scale

In the corporate network, information may be exchanged throughout different businesses, making it simpler for those with common interests to collaborate. With its help, firms may be able to reduce overhead costs and increase revenue. As data is exchanged and processed across firms, it increases the complexity of implementing a scalable, high-performing, and secure data management system. This article presents BP++, an expansion of the BestPeer P2P data management platform that offers elastic data sharing services for cloud-based business network applications. BP++ integrates cloud computing, databases, and P2P technologies to provide its members with data sharing services under the well-known pay-as-you-go pricing model. For our BP++ tests, we make use of Amazon's EC2 cloud infrastructure. Benchmarks show that BP++ outperforms the recently proposed HadoopDB large-scale data processing solution when both systems are employed to handle typical business network demands. The results demonstrate that BP++ is quite efficient, with throughput scaling practically linearly with the number of peer nodes

Holographic Data Storage Technology- The future of Data Storage

    Get PDF
In the present times technological advancement has grown at rapid rate. Today most of the people are using smart devices which comprises of various kinds of technologies. One of the most important factor in using technology is to store digital data. Presently most of the work are done using digital devices such as computers and mobiles and people need to store their data in devices but the device has limited amount of storage. So need arises to store more amount of data using less space. For this purpose we need to invent storage technologies which helps people to store more amount of data. In order to meet demands of greater storage there are various storage technologies such as different types of ROM, optical storage discs, USB flash drives which uses different technologies to store data. This paper focuses on Holographic data storage technology which helps people to store large amount of data

The 14.8-h Orbital Period of GX339-4

We present the results of photometric observations of the black hole candidate GX339-4, obtained while the system was in an \u27off\u27 state. We show that a 14.8-h modulation was present, and provide evidence for a similar periodicity in the \u27high\u27 state from a reanalysis of previously published photometry and spectroscopy. The presence of the same period in both states implies that it is likely to be the orbital period of the system. The spectroscopy analysis provides evidence for an apparent change in the systemic velocity of the system. The amplitude of the observed radial velocity variations, however, permits only crude limits to be placed on the mass of the compact object. Only absorption-line spectroscopy of the secondary in the \u27off\u27 state will provide a convincing mass determination

Clinical Utility of Molecular Profiling in Recurrent Glioblastoma Multiforme

Introduction: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive primary malignant brain tumor found in adults. GBM has limited therapeutic options. Initial tumor sampling establishes the histopathologic diagnosis, identifies prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers, and provides an opportunity for molecular profiling. By contrast, the utility of repeat tumor sampling and molecular profiling in recurrent GBM is not well established. Clinical Findings: We present a 69-year-old woman with GBM whose tumor recurred after standard treatment with temozolomide (TMZ) and concurrent radiation, followed by adjuvant TMZ. This patient had a methylated O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter, which ordinarily predicts a favorable response to TMZ. Main Diagnosis, Therapeutic Interventions, and Outcomes: Our patient’s recurrent tumor was rechallenged with TMZ based on persistent methylation of the MGMT promoter. However, her tumor was refractory to TMZ, and she floridly progressed through multiple treatments. We performed retrospective molecular profiling using next-generation sequencing (NGS) on her recurrent tumor. The NGS results showed a TMZ hypermutation signature that confers resistance to TMZ. This signature impacted our patient’s treatment plan in real time and prompted an immediate discontinuation of TMZ. Conclusions: Advances in NGS provide further insight into the molecular landscape of GBM. As NGS becomes more timely and cost-effective, molecular profiling of recurrent tumors could impact treatment decisions through either avoiding a particular treatment paradigm or identifying a potential targetable mutation. For this reason, we suggest that clinical practice routinely consider repeat biopsy and molecular profiling for recurrent GBM
